Service Overview

Tree Pruning
In Plain English.

What It Is

Tree pruning is the targeted removal of selected branches — for health, shape, fruit production, or to remove damaged, dead or rubbing limbs.

Who It's For

Owners of fruit trees, ornamentals, young trees that need structural training, and any mature tree needing periodic maintenance pruning.

When You Need It

Most species benefit from pruning in late winter while dormant. Fruit trees, oaks, prunus and acers have specific windows — we work to the right season for the species.

Why It Matters

Good pruning extends the productive and structural life of the tree. Bad pruning ruins it.

What Happens If You Wait

The Cost Of
Doing Nothing.

A pruning cut is a wound — it heals only if it's the right cut in the right place.

Risks Of Ignoring It

  • Wrong-season cuts on oak (May–July) can attract oak processionary moth and disease.
  • Flush cuts (cutting through the branch collar) prevent the wound healing properly.
  • Over-pruning young trees stunts development.

Common Mistakes Customers Make

  • ×Sealing cuts with paint or tar — slows healing and traps moisture.
  • ×Pruning fruit trees at the wrong time of year — loses next season's crop.

Ask Yours

How much does tree pruning cost?

+

Every job is different — tree size, access and site conditions all affect price. We give free, no-obligation written estimates after a site visit, normally back within 24 hours. We work to a written quote based on the job, not a day rate. Payment by cash or bank transfer on completion — no deposits required.

What are your hours, and do you do emergencies?

+

Standard hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. We offer emergency call-outs for storm damage and dangerous trees, and the phone is answered outside normal working hours.

Are you qualified and insured?

+

NPTC qualified, holding CS30, CS31, CS32, CS38, CS39, CS40 and CS41 certificates. Fully insured through Arborisk — £5m public liability and £10m employers' liability cover. Evidence available on request.

What happens to the waste?

+

All of our by-product is recycled — turned into biomass energy and seasoned firewood, so nothing goes to landfill. On garden clearances we take all the waste away unless you'd like to keep any of the wood or woodchip.

Do you cover my area?

+

We cover Bedford, Milton Keynes, Luton, Northampton, Cambridge, Stevenage, Wellingborough, Huntingdon and the surrounding counties. If you're nearby, phone and ask.

Do I need permission to have a tree worked on?

+

Some trees are protected by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or sit in a conservation area. For TPO or conservation-area trees we can handle the council application on your behalf for a small fee, which is deducted from your bill if you go ahead with the work.

Do you carry out tree surveys or reports?

+

This isn't a service we currently offer.
